The thought for this post originated from a shower thought. That is really where the best thinking happens right? I guess that it should be rather obvious but it just occurred to me that as of now, I am my own boss. Oh the responsibilities!
I have had a few jobs but I never get accustomed to the mundane tasks and at times the brain dead routine that so often comes with a 9 to 5 job.
So how to break out of that hamster wheel that just keeps spinning? Become your own boss! Having a blog can start and in my opinion it should start as a hobby.
Once you learn the tools of the trade you can monetize it and turn it into a business. Most successful blogs I have seen started out as just that, hobbies. Surely there are some that start it as a business and succeed, I am not saying that it is impossible but it is hard work.
Being your own boss comes with a lot of freedom and I love how I can pick my laptop up and go across the world to sit down and keep working.
Being a digital nomad is amazing especially if you love to travel because it really opens the world up.
But it is not only fun and games. There is a hell of a lot of responsibility involved in doing this and I think that few on the “outside” realize that.
Sure I do not have to wake up to an alarm clock but at the same time if I decide to not work for a day or two it really hurts my business.
Also I have found that I work more now than I did when I worked as an IT-tech in a hospital in my hometown. Now I need to find inspiration anywhere I go and more importantly I need to remember to write it down.
God bless the notepad app in my phone, it is a real life saver, or should I say blog saver! It has helped me kick the ass of writers block many a times.
Traveling the world and being your own boss is flippin sweet but it is not so easy as it may seem. The results from blogging can fluctuate a lot so it is important to build a great base of readers up and more importantly to keep them coming back!
Blogging takes a lot of time and hard work but to me the positive completely outweigh the negative. If you are going to try it make sure that you know how much work it is.
Blogging is more than just writing, it is also a lot of marketing, media creation and most of all I think it is about networking.
To round this post up just let me tell you this, if you think that you are up for the task: Try it out! Give it a shot and give it all you´ve got! You can do it!
