Where is it?
Luang Prabang is the old capitol of Laos, you will find the night market in the center of the city. It is a relatively big night market that pops up in the evening almost every day of the year. You can stroll here for a while and find a lot of different things to buy such as clothing, food, drinks, souvenirs and so much more. A lot of it seems to be locally made.
As I stayed in Luang Prabang a bit longer than what I first expected to do, not at all in any negative way, I got a chance to visit this market many times and I tried most of the foods. I even did a bit of shopping, maybe a bit too much but hey it was cold so I needed to gear up.
Anyway, they have a lovely vegetable buffé where you pay for a plate and then you get to fill it up and there is a lot of things to choose from. I never made it through an entire plate but if you are still hungry you can just pay again and refill it. If I remember correctly it cost about 15.000kip about 1.7$. Not only was it cheap, most of it also tasted really good.
If you go there you will most likely have a good time, exchange a lot of smiles and eat something really tasty so if you are passing by then make sure to stop here atleast for one visit. And let me tell ya, if you like to haggle then this place is heaven for you. The vendors seem to enjoy it too and there are a lot of them, some of them even sell the exact same things but to completely different prices.
Do you have the guts to try the snake, scorpion or “why not both of them” whiskey? It sure has a punch to it, that is all that I will say about it. 😛
