Whenever I hear “Grand Canyon” I think of the big canyon in the U.S.A. But this is actually a post about another Grand Canyon, this one is located outside of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
It is famous for its cliff jumping but sadly enough it is also known for the many deaths that has occurred there. The mix of alcohol, high cliffs and deep water is not always the safest thing.
Luckily the Thais have recognized this and now they have a lot of guards everywhere in the area to keep an look out for daring tourists jumping off the cliffs or anyone not being such a great swimmer.
So what is it?
It is an old quarry that now serves as a swimming pool of sorts, it is a lovely area to visit and I do recommend that anyone passing through Chiang Mai takes a few hours or even a whole day to go here.
It is especially great if the sun is strong. If you like adventure you almost have to go and try jumping off the cliffs. The highest point is this old quarry is a 14m high cliff.
What to do there
See the area, experience the atmosphere, swim around the lovely water, have fun with all the awesome people, be adventurous and jump off the cliffs, eat some ice cream in the shade, hide from the sun, drink some cold beer, relax in a tube in this massive swimming pool or anything else fun that you can think of while there.
How to get there
Thanks to technology it is really easy. Just rent a scooter and type this coordinates into Google Maps “18.697053, 98.893398“.
